Overview Of Role

We are building a next-gen, itinerary planning platform designed to fundamentally change how travel is sold, packaged, and fulfilled.

The core of the product is an automated itinerary engine that understands a traveller’s budget, preferences, group size, timing, and interests, and then dynamically assembles bookable itineraries in minutes by plugging directly into hotel and lodge inventory systems via APIs.

We are looking for a senior Product Manager with deep tourism domain expertise to help design, structure, and operationalise this system from the ground up to be based at our Midrand Offices.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Design and lead the product architecture for an AI-driven itinerary planner
  •  Define how traveller inputs (budget, preferences, routing, seasonality, activities) translate into structured, bookable itineraries

 Map and document:

  •  Hotel vs lodge pricing models (dynamic vs fixed)
  •  Commission structures across inbound agents, outbound agents, and direct-to-guest models
  •  Inventory management systems used by hotels, lodges, and safari operators
  •  Design a centralised inventory and pricing database that integrates with:
  •  PMS systems
  •  Channel managers
  •  Booking engines
  •  Supplier APIs

Work closely with BA’s and engineering teams to:

  •  Define API requirements
  •  Structure data schemes
  •  Service levels
  •  Ensure pricing, availability, and rules are handled correctly
  •  Help define commercial rules around:
  •  Currency conversion
  •  Payment flows
  •  Deposit structures
  •  Cancellation policies
  •  Commission allocation
  •  Contribute strategic insight on seasonality, demand patterns, and pricing behaviour across Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands
  • Required Experience & Expertise
  •  Minimum 5 years’ experience in senior tourism, product, or distribution roles

 Deep, practical understanding of:

  •  Inbound and outbound travel agent ecosystems
  •  Commission and margin structures
  •  Hotel pricing (dynamic yield-based models)
  •  Safari lodge pricing (seasonal, fixed-rate models)

 Strong knowledge of:

  •  Hotel PMS and inventory systems
  •  Channel managers and booking engines
  •  How availability, rates, and restrictions are managed and distributed
  •  Proven exposure to Southern Africa and Indian Ocean destinations, including:
  •  South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe
  •  Mozambique, Seychelles, Mauritius, Tanzania, Kenya

 Strong working knowledge of:

  •  Exchange control considerations
  •  Cross-border payments
  •  Payment safety, fraud prevention, and reconciliation systems

 Understanding of:

  •  High / shoulder / low season by region
  •  Political, regulatory, and operational nuances that impact travel
  •  What Will Set You Apart
  •  Existing supplier and operator relationships across Africa and the islands

 Experience working on or alongside:

  •  Travel tech platforms
  •  Online booking engines
  •  Distribution or aggregation models
  •  Ability to think in systems, rules, and automation, not just manual processes
  •  Commercially minded, with a clear understanding of margin protection and scalability
  •  Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, build-from-zero environment
  •  Why This Role Matters
  •  The traditional safari and Africa travel model does not scale because itinerary creation is manual, slow, and consultant-dependent. This role exists to remove that bottleneck entirely.

Your work will directly shape a platform capable of:

  •  Producing itineraries in minutes, not days
  •  Scaling globally without linear headcount growth
  •  Capturing value that currently leaks through intermediaries
